Mercedes AMG – Depth Of Field Focus

My step-father and I were invited to a Mercedes AMG Performance driving event where we could test drive the SL63, C63, E63, and the brand new CLS63 that isn’t even at the dealers yet (at the time of posting). Mercedes set up a small track with cones and we took a couple laps in each car. I had a blast taking these cars for a spin and still can’t seem to shake the desire to drive faster in my own car.

AMG also had some display cars, like the SLS, that we could sit in and look at. Given the rarity of some of these cars, I knew I wanted to capture the experience. When taking a walk around the SLS, I noticed the car’s emblem and wanted to explore depth of field on a smaller subject and not just separating a model from a background. Car emblems don’t take up a lot of space, so I knew I had to get really close to the car with my lens. I also shot on an angle to create more depth. In order to achieve the DOF I shot fairly open between f2.8 and f5. Because of the mid-afternoon sun and the open aperture, I had to keep my shutter speed very fast between 1/1000 and 1/2500. All were shot at ISO 200 using my 24-70mm lens.
